Being from Long Island I know I'm fortunate enough to be living on one of the greatest places in the country to raise a family. From the close proximity to the city to the pristine beaches and good education system it's an ideal place for anyone who has the chance to be here. Regrettably however; pressing deeper into the 21st century Long Island has its set of hardships to face if we want to be as prosperous as ever.
One of the worst problems facing Long Island today is the overwhelming traffic problems. Traffic has become an ever increasing burden on the island over the last several decades. The way we solve this problem however; is to rethink our Long Island downtowns. By creating greater access to public transportation and reworking bicycle paths we can one day hope to relieve some congestion while reducing air pollution cause by vehicle emissions.
Yet another hazard facing Long Island is the lack of affordable housing. Because affordable housing numbers are so low young Long Islanders are being shoved off the island. When we look at Long Island downtowns though; we can solve this easily. By converting our downtown areas partially into affordable housing areas we can preserve wildlife and offer a new generation a chance to live where their parents did.
Thirdly; urban sprawl is beginning to encroach on Long Island's natural habitat and wildlife. Without any formal conformity towns on Long Island haphazardly enjoy spreading themselves out into our parks and forests. If we begin to looking to Long island downtowns we can start to preserve what is left of our natural lands. In building upwardly as opposed to out and turning gray parking lots into modern parking garages we will begin to change the course of Long Island for the good.
We all know Long Island is a great place to live. Even with the countless problems we may be facing it's an ideal location to raise a family. Before you decide to give up and move out; look to the Long Island downtown instead of being rash.
