Financial Budgeting Quick Reference And Ideas - Part 3

By Willie Green

Start Saving!

All right, so you've got a truckload of bills you need to pay monthly, and you're desperately searching for a way to save up for emergencies, not to mention a Rogaine prescription because you're losing hair trying to save that money. In other words, where can you find that extra cash to put away for later?

The first thing you want to do is consider your savings first when constructing your budget. You can have more money faster if you think of your own kitty before any other. So before you go ahead and pay those nagging bills, how about giving yourself a nifty little "paycheck" as your own boss, say about ten percent or so. And before paying the bills, deposit the money you've paid yourself into a savings account.

By doing this at the start of the month, you won't feel like a one-day millionaire anymore as you will actually be saving. Chances are you would not have a penny left to save if you wait until the month is over. Paying yourself first will give you a systematic way to make your money grow. Of course, you will need to stick to such a strategy once you have already started.

Another technique you may try for saving money is to empty your extra change into a coffee can or a jar each day. You can roll the coins by month's end and add up the total amount into your kitty. You may be able to save 30 or 40 dollars each month just with your spare change.

Remember that good money management is more than just a mathematical formula. It's too closely tied with the ups and downs of living to be just that. If those changes do happen to you, then it's probably time you added some new plays into your money management playbook. You want to get as close as possible to, and eventually reach your financial goals, so a good budget should not be bound by any hard, fast rules.

Don't get discouraged if the budget plan doesn't work perfectly right away. You may need to make a few more adjustments than initially expected, so be patient. Then, make sure to review it often, and be sure it is making the best use of every penny! Doesn't it feel good to have a few spare pennies available at your disposal?
