Email Marketing Made Simple In A Few Steps

By Donnell Hom

Most new businesses are not aware of the proper business etiquette in email marketing. There are methods for handling email marketing in a professional manner that will assure the happiness of the customers and have them anticipating each email you send them. Keep reading for some great etiquette tips for your email marketing campaign.

Do not generally waste your time, or resources, sending out important email marketing around major holidays. People do not have time to check their emails as much since they are away from work and have limited access to their computers. Of course, as always there are exceptions to this rule. An example of such an exception might be a Black Friday special for 25% off an LED TV.

It is vital that your emails contain more than only a sales pitch. Create a real newsletter with tips related to your products and other useful information relevant to your target audience. Including only sales pitches will result in unsatisfied customers and a high rate of unsubscribing from your mailing list. Although your main purpose may be to increase your sales, you have to keep your customers interested.

Only use email marketing to target people who have give you permission to contact them. Sending emails to people who didn't request them is called spamming. They won't know if they know who you are, and then they will think about whether they care at all about the actual content or your email. They may just delete your message; what a waste of time!

Test the different formats of emails. The most urgent information and the newest offers should generally appear near the top of the message. Vary email formats regularly to determine which ones generate the most sales. Once you realize what is successful, stick with it. When you do this all of your customers know where they need to look for when searching for information they are interested in reading.

Make the subject line of your e-mail exciting, entertaining and interesting. The subject line needs to catch the attention of your potential customers to increase the likelihood that they will open and read it. An email with a boring or suspicious subject line will probably get deleted without ever being opened.

Graphics can be used in email marketing, but only sparingly. A lot of email clients will block images right away. Image-heavy messages may appear unattractive or unreadable if the client does not display the graphics. You should always present vital information in plain text, and make certain that all of your images utilize alt tags.

Send out birthday emails to your customers. Allow your subscribers to include their birth date on the sign up form, then follow up with an automatic email on the big day. This will endear your customer to you, and it might even increase your sales if you send them a birthday discount code!

One way business owners can make their email marketing more effective is to build their own opt-in list. In other words, don't simply purchase a random email list that may or may not contain people that are interested in your business. Instead, gradually increase your email list by adding the addresses of people who show an interest in your business.

As you can see from the advice above, there are many ways you can use email marketing to benefit your business. As you begin applying these techniques, you should see a noticeable improvement in your email marketing strategies.
