Personal Time Management - Staying On Task

By Samuel Jacobson Xavier

Anybody can learn to properly manage his or her time. It's only a question of shedding unproductive habits and taking on more efficient ones. Naturally, it's easier to read about this than to do it.

Many people have a hard time making important changes. Don't expect to become a time management expert in a single day. So approach the process understanding that some setbacks are inevitable. That said, there are some things that you can start doing right away to help you better manage your time and to be more productive during the day.

Have a schedule for your month, week and day. It is important that you schedule in breaks, time to return emails and conference times. You will find it much easier to handle your tasks if you have a structured schedule. You will be able to train yourself to be more productive during specific times of the day. It just takes diligence. Follow your schedule for a month and you might find that you have it committed to memory and that it has become second nature!

Don't forget about breaks and relaxation times. I don't know anyone who can go all day and still remain happy with their position without regulars "me" times. Your mind and body both need some down time every day to just unwind. Your brain is a complicated being that has proven time and again to function more efficiently after returning from abreak period. So make time for break time in your busy schedule at least a few times each day. Your brain and your body both need this "me" time. On top of that your emotions need them too. It is important that you stick to your guns on this one and don't let anyone tell you anything different.

Figuring out good time management skills can be hard to do at first. Your schedule will help you stay on task and focused on the days agenda. Those people you've always thought had great time management skills may soon become your time management equals rather than you feeling so disorganized all the time. Goals are a good thing to have. Remember to stay focused and not go overboard. Leave time for fun in your life. Work hard, but be sure to leave time to play harder!

No matter the variety of company you could have, it's always good to have a plan b. That's why always looking for a job may be beneficial.
