Sash windows have various components. Each part is unique in its own way and executes a particular duty. The frame for example performs the function of supporting panes which act as a passage of light. Actually, windows just like doors are passages of air and also light. Therefore, at times they have to be closed and sometimes they are opened. Opening and closing is possible because of sash cords, weights and also hinges. Different weight combinations make up the pulley which is an interior system. Actually, the exterior play a major role when it comes to aesthetic matters. On the hard, interior parts make it possible for the structure to work in a seamless manner.

The weights are used to counterbalance the weight of the entire structure so that there is proper balance. Any form of imbalance may cause undesired consequences. So, precision is usually applied during the manufacturing process so as to ensure that everything is fine. Apart from the balancing effect, the right position is achieved with the masses in question. Actually, different positions are normally assumed during opening and closing. Every process normally happens courtesy of a built in pulley system.

Parts normally move vertically or horizontally because of pulley mechanisms. Such are normally executed easily if regular maintenance is usually the case. A maintenance activity will prevent the formation of rust and will lead to identification of problems at an early stage.

Hinges are functional in more than one way. First and foremost, they connect frames to the main frame that is attached to the house. The most durable part of a window is usually the frame.

Frames must also be strong while panes are usually brittle. Thus, they should be handled with utmost care. During cleaning to remove debris, the surface of panes must be touched by soft material.

Most parts of traditional sash windows are very simple. Only a few components are mechanical in nature. There is a pulley system that is made based on the principle of mechanics.
