Uses of Find and Replace in Word

By Lois Park

Counting the amount of words

There are occasions when you could need to count one specific word in your document so rather than scanning through and counting them in your head Microsoft have created a Find and Replace tool generally used to find words and replace them with another but it also has other uses.

Firstly you want to select the part of the document you wish to search do this by highlighting the text. To choose the find and replace press Ctrl and H on your keyboard the Find and Replace pop up will appear.

It'll mechanically choose the Replace tab at the top for you. In the Find what section type the word you would like to count, write the same word in the Replace with section then select replace all. A pop up then appears telling you what amount of words were replaced therefore telling you how many are in your document. Word replaces the word with itself so there wont be any changes to your document.

Finding a specific Font

The font of a document is very important and it's not a professional look having one or two different fonts in one document. If you have used copy and paste you'll have put another font into your document. When you have a big quantity of pages words with a different font can be hard to identify.

You can use the Find and Replace tool to mend that Issue. Press Ctrl and H on your keyboard bringing you to the Find and Replace tab you will then need to decide on the Find tab at the top. Push the more button in the left hand corner. Ensure the find what box is empty. Click Format and the select the font you would like to find. You can specify other information in this box but you don?t have to. Then Click OK the font specifications you are searching for appear slightly below the Find What box. Push the Highlight All Items check box then click Find All.
