Is it worth while creating your own business website?

By Francis Denver

Before we leap straight in have a think about these things. Firstly, what type of situation are you in? and secondly, why do you want to create a website? What is it for?

Learning to create a basic business website isn't rocket science, if it were then I am reasonably sure that there would be a lot more rocket scientists around and a lot less web designers. We by no means intend to suppose that web design isn't a terrifically in depth discipline that requires a lot of study and accomplishment. We are a web design company after all.

If you are a business owner or are intending to set up your own business then it may well be that you are the kind of person that can pick up the skills needed to build a basic website. A lot of time learning about design basics, CSS, HTML needs to be spent, then putting this new knowledge together as a website. This is where we come to the first question that you need to ask yourself. Do you have the time available to acquire these new skills?

With the state of current economy you may have been unfortunate enough to lose your job and be in the position of deciding wether to re-join the rat-race and aim to find another job or to start up your own business. If this is your situation then creating your own basic website is completely achievable.

If you already own or run a business the finding then extra time needed may prove very difficult. If this fits your situation then the website that you create is probably not going to meet up to your current expectations.

What is it that you are hoping your new business website going to do for you? To answer this you first need to look at your business market and the level of professionalism that is expected of it.

Your market competitors could all have basic websites that fit the type of products or services that you are also hoping to push. A basic business website may well be suitable if this suits your situation and building the website yourself could be the way for you to go.

If your business falls in to what is deemed to be a more professional sort of business such as a law firm or a training provider then a basic looking site might not give an impression of your business that you want potential clients to see. If this fits your situation then it may be better for you to stick to running your business and to let a professional web designer create a professional looking website for you.
