A fluorescent jacket will keep you safe when cycling at night

By Molly Oliver

Travelling during the day is definitely preferable to travelling at night, but with early winter nights many of us find that we aren't able to avoid travelling at this time of day and if we do find that we are required to travel during this time then the appropriate measures need to be taken. It is definitely more dangerous to cycle at night than it is to cycle during the day and if you do find yourself having to do this then extra precautions will need to be taken before you start your trip.

Cycling at night means that you need to make a few investments and investing in the appropriate cycling gear is a good way to start in this respect. If you are able to be easily seen in the dark then this can go a long way to helping your chances in an accident and this can help to protect you and anyone who might be involved in an accident with you. Attaching lights to your bicycle is one initial way to do this and you can stand out from the crowd and make yourself easily noticeable by doing this.

Wearing a fluorescent jacket and various other highly visible items of clothing can make you easily identifiable by street lights and the headlights of passing cars, allowing them to see easily where you are. You can also place illuminated stickers onto your bicycle and bicycle helmet to allow them to identify you even easier.

In addition to this you might consider attaching a light to your bicycle or a light to your bicycle helmet which allows you to see the road ahead of you quite easily, it can also help you to quickly identify any hazards which might be found on the road in front of you.

Being the victim of a road accident is never easy and if you do feel that you have taken all the appropriate precautions and still been left with injuries then you might look towards making a claim for compensation.
