Things To Consider When Starting A Cleaning Business

By Bob William

Many people these days are looking for ways to take control of their income by starting their own home-based business. The decision to start a cleaning business can be very rewarding and lucrative. Whether focusing on residential or commercial cleaning businesses they provide many great benefits:

- minimal start-up capital requirements

- potential to become profitable rather quickly

- potential to build into full-time businesses while starting out part-time

- flexible hours depending on client base (overnight or banker's hours)

- considered recession-proof by many when targeting commercial businesses

Overnight success does not usually occur in business. Starting a cleaning business is no exception to the rule. Sweat equity and hard work will need to be poured into the business. A proven formula will also be necessary. In fact many would consider this a key to success in any industry, be it a cleaning business or any other. Whether dealing with a cleaning, pressure-washing, pool-cleaning, or any other service-based business, they share many basic principles of operation. In order for your cleaning business to grow you will have to increase the quantity of people you help and the quality by which you do it. This can only be accomplished by employing a systematic approach to how you build. This is a basic formula I follow when planning out a start-up business to help me stay focused:

- Plan - a carefully considered written strategy will be your road-map towards success and will help keep you on track

- Proven Processes - systems bring consistency, efficiency, and effectiveness to what you do and how you do it while amplifying the fruit from working your plan

- Perseverance- commitment to the plan plus hard work to make it happen, good, bad or ugly, is a must for your plan to bear out in the long-term

With a solid plan, solid systems, and the dedication to work them without relenting will create great success in any venture you set out to conquer. The next item you will want to think about now is how to get started in the cleaning business. With three primary ways to begin building your cleaning business success formula there are some options:

- Purchase a franchise - a franchise will provide you with a detailed and structured plan of attack, proven systems, and all the support you could need along the way. Although having everything laid out for you has its benefits, franchises can be very expensive while limiting you to ONLY the franchise name, branding, processes, etc.

- Dive in head first - this route of course may seem cheaper on the surface and allow you unlimited freedom to discover your own path towards starting your cleaning business, but the lack of guidance and best practices can result in costly mistakes. (not knowing how to properly bid on jobs can cost you tremendously by selling yourself short!)

- Investing in start-up training material - this route gives you the best of both worlds at a low cost. By gaining knowledge from the successes of people already experienced in starting cleaning businesses, you can find a great balance of proven models for success and the choice to implement them however you see fit!

It is important to perform your due diligence before diving into your first cleaning business. The cleaning business just may become the most rewarding yet trying decisions you ever make. Take the time to determine which approach suits your personality best. Prepare yourself mentally. Create a plan and make a firm committment to work your plan until you achieve success!
