Fight For Your Rights In Collections

By Greg Diener

Paying out debts is something that should be regarded as a high priority for anybody. No matter who you are if you have a series of debts you need to pay out for yourself or your business, the collections are going to be given to an agency that will help pay off the issues associated with your debt. However, you must keep in mind that while organizations that specialize in these matters have an outstanding track record, some companies can use your personal information against you while collecting your debt.

If you believe your debt collector is engaging in unfair practices against you, in regards to the payment of your debt, you should know how you are protected under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA). The FDCPA was passed by Congress in the year 1978 with the purpose of protecting customers from any violations that a collection agency may practice. There are many activities that a debt collector must not do in accordance to the FDCPA to ensure fair debt collection the consumer.

According to the rules that are provided in the FDCPA, debt companies can't call in the periods before 8:00 AM or after 9:00 PM. Also you are allowed to let a collection agency know that they are not permitted to call you about the debt. Should a collection agency, fail to take note and continues to call your home, it is then up to you to call your lawyer. You should also know that agencies must not repeatedly call your residence with the intent to harass you, along with calling you at your place of work.

Do not be in fear though of worrying that your debt will never be paid, despite the issues with your current collection company. You could always ask any friends you have about collection agencies they work with and what agencies are a good fit in getting the money out as quickly as possible. Rapid Recovery is one such agency that has had tons of experience in working with consumers in debt collection. Work with your new company about all the FDCPA and try to find ideas of working in accordance to those rules.

It can be tough sometimes if you think the rights you have are being violated by a collector, but remember like I said before most debt collection companies are reputable. Working with a trusted collection agency will help solve all the problems you may face with your bills. Maintaining proper credit should be the first thing any collection agency should do when working on a person's debts.
