Reasons Why Military Antennas Are Used

By Melanie Vaughn

Military antennas have been in use for quite some time now for communication purposes. This is quite similar to the normal antennas except for the fact that, these ones are more advanced. This is because; they have been made using the unique technology that is top secret. It cannot be cracked by anyone outside the military world thus; this is what gives them an edge with regards to their enemies during combat.

As we all know, during such times, terrorists aim at communication devices in order to disable them. The occurrence of such breakdown poses a serious risk to the soldiers on the ground. It is for this purpose that these gadgets are used. They have the ability to withstand such since their mode of transmission is based on pulses. This is slightly different from the normal antennas which use electromagnetic waves.

Mobility is another factor to put into consideration. The ease of moving them from one place to another is truly essential. They have to be extremely portable. This is aided by minimum weight exhibited as compared to other antennas. With portability, they can be carried around on the backs of the soldiers or even attached on armored vehicles, warships and fighter jets.

Most of these gadgets are small in size and mass. Such a small size gives them the ease of mobility around the area without tiring the persons carrying them. With small size and weight, they are able to occupy smaller spaces. The need for transporting them from one locality to another is a cheap thing to do with regards to these features.

With regards to the size, they cannot be detected. Today, advancements have been made in such a way that their designs are relatively small but with high power to transmit the communication pulses. This makes it to be extremely difficult for the enemies to spot one and destroy it. Such a feature makes them to be favorable for use. It is boosted by colors which match the surrounding environment. In addition to this, others are known not to require cables thus; very appropriate for use for this kind of tasks.

The capability of resisting harsh atmospheric conditions is another feature which makes these aerials to be used for military purposes. Their structure and design is that of maximum strength to withstand all weather conditions regardless of how severe they may be, for example, extreme temperatures, muddy and dusty conditions. In this regard, they have strong coverings which make this attribute a reality.

Furthermore, consider the range within which they are able to communicate with others. This is very important so as not to cut off communication without noticing. Their selection, therefore, has to be based on both the narrow-band and ultra wide-band which are the two main channels when boosting the usage of these devices.

The final reason for using military antennas is that of high efficiency in relaying the messages received and sent. In this case, they have been designed to transmit waves in form of impulses unlike ordinary antennas that use electromagnetic waves. This makes it extremely difficult for their opponents to disrupt their communication channels. It gives the armed forces an added advantage over them.
