What to Look Out For When Buying A Notebook Computer

By Michael Raja

Buying a new PC isn't the same as when you're buying a new portable computer. This is down to the fact that specific things that are ignored when buying a desktop P.C like weight is vital when purchasing a portable computer. Here are some things to look out for when hunting for your next portable computer. If this is for your work, there may be other things to think about, for example security and connectivity. Talk to your IT support department for more information.

Weight

As discussed earlier having to carry around a 5 pound notebook is much worse than having to carry about a 2.5 pound notebook. This might not appear like much, but when mixed with power cords, and the carrier bag itself, then you can realize why every pound helps.

Backlit keyboard

If you do plenty of typing in dark areas, then this is an absolute life-saver. It may not look like that great a feature, but it's the small touches which make you adore your contraptions for longer.

Heat

Computers with high end processors generate lots of heat, and because they have to occupy a small amount of space, it is difficult to disperse the heat. So they tend to heat up fairly quickly. So if you want to use your laptop on your lap, consider the heat that it generates otherwise you have toasted thighs.

Keyboard

This is a case of personal choice, but an important one none the less. If you do a lot of typing, then you'll want to test out the keyboard first. A heavy typist will probably like a keyboard with a lot of bounce, whilst a light typist would like shallow keys.

CD Drive

With more and more computers not coming with CD drives to make them ultra thin, you will need to decide if you need this for your media. With more things available on the web these days, a fast connection is generally more crucial than a CD drive.
