Ever heard of the Emperor with no clothes?
You know how it went don't you.
This guy had a lust of looking good and would buy into anything fancy. As per the Kinks ' song, the emperor was a 'dedicated follower of fashion'.
The tale comes to head when the emperor, thinking he's wearing the final word in textiles is actually wearing nothing, but because he is the emperor nobody dares let him know that he's strolling round with nothing on.
There is a little bit of that unfortunate emperor in everyone even local marketing agency owners aren't immune (I cannot lie)
We all need to feel we're special; we like to think people tell us the truth and we have all made a fool of ourselves at one time or another.
And yes, this extended to business. Just substitute 'Emperor ' for 'Small Business ' and 'Clothes ' for 'Marketing Strategy'.
Do you see where I'm taking this?
Who among you knows someone in business that, in the pursuit of success, hasn't at some specific point invested their faith, time and cash in learning or giving something new a try to help their business along.
I have, and I can tell you that when new marketing does not quite work out it can be difficult for folk to tell you that you are on to a looser and it can be harder for you to admit it to yourself as it leaves you feeling a bit stupid.
So how to stop new marketing strategies and secrets leaving you feeling lost and silly?
Well, here's my super simple marketing solution, one so advanced that it will last you a lifetime.
Are you ready for it?
Let's go!
Never feel, think or be led to believe that something new can replace something old that is tried and tested.
Social media, can't replace you knowing your customers and community although it can often help you build on your local profile.
Websites and local marketing doesn't mean that you can ignore caring for your customers one-by-one and making sure they trust and like you. But internet sites and local marketing can help you extend your reputation for honesty and trust to new people.
Building links can never replace building relationships. What's more productive, me sitting here writing this article or taking an hour out of my day to introduce myself to local firms?
The new is only logical if it builds on the old, if you believe otherwise, can I suggest that it's only matter of time till you feel naked and exposed!
