The Question of Cheap Tyres

By Vincent To

Tyres are one of the most expensive components in a car. You need to buy five of them as one spare tyre is required in the care in case of an emergency. This can be quite an investment. People therefore, look for cost effective solutions to bring down the expenditure. However, there is general concern about using cheap tyres, instead of brand new tyres, when one is conscious of various safety factors, including efficient running of the car at all times. Let us check out the pros and cons of using cheap tyres instead of branded ones and see whether it makes a difference or not.

One of the main concerns people have about using cheap tyres is the safety factor. Will you be compromising on safety by using cheap tyres? Are cheap tyres risky to use for regular driving? In other words, are brand new tyres much superior in quality, safety and performance when compared to cheap tyres? Since most people take the safety of their family very seriously, they want to know whether or not they would be putting their family at risk by using cheap tyres. The truth is more often than not, cheap tyres perform almost as well as brand new tyres. There is not much proof to suggest that cheap tyres perform poorly when compared to more expensive tyres.

Another concern for people who consider buying cheap tyres is whether they will blow up in adverse conditions. Most of the time, people get a flat tyre because they do not maintain the sufficient air pressure in their tyres. So this has nothing to do with the price of the tyre. The other cause of flat tyres is road hazards, which again are not related any way to cheap tyres. Even expensive tyres are equally likely to get punctured due to road hazards. So here again, cheap tyres do not perform much differently than expensive tyres.

The next important question is the price to performance ratio when it comes to cheap versus expensive tyres. There is no question that expensive tyres would offer a better riding experience when compared to most cheap tyres. But the improved performance would be discernible only if the suspension of the car is in an impeccable condition. In most cars however, the superior performance of the expensive tyres would go undetected due to the less than perfect condition of the wheel suspensions. So rather than waste money on something that the average passenger would never appreciate, it is more cost effective to go for cheap tyres, which will provide almost the same riding experience for all practical purposes. People can save anywhere from 200 pounds to 300 pounds when buying a set of four cheap tyres when compared to similar tyres of the expensive variety.

It is advantageous, when you think of using the saving to fill up the tank in your car. The same money that you would invest in expensive tyres could be used to give your family a vacation. You can purchase these cheap tyres anywhere and it will not cost much to replace one of them, when necessary.
