Car Transport - Truck Use

By Nelson Horton

The type of Car Transport you have for options often depend on your budget, timeline and concern over your car being subjected to exterior elements. Always use the company that meets your personal requirements. Be sure that you inform them of any special requirements that you may have.

Car haulers, all kinds, are not a new sight on the country's roads. A lot of people are not aware of the kinds of haulers that can be used to transport different vehicles. As the customer, one should know the types of auto transport trailers/haulers to be used, its pros and its cons, as there is such a large array of cars, SUVs, bikes, boats and trucks today.

In general, vehicle transport trailers consist of two types, namely open transport trailer and enclosed transport trailer. Hotshots or trailers are the vehicles of choice for transporting cars. Both have been adapted so that they are perfectly suited for the job.

A hotshot looks like an ordinary pick-up, but the difference is that they can transport up to three cars at once. Hotshots are useful because they can ship your vehicle straight away - you don't have to wait for the slots to be filled. The only problem is that they cost more, as the number of vehicles being shipped is lower.

Hotshots deliver quickly because they move better on residential roads. If you require door-to-door delivery, then a hotshot is the best choice. While hotshots can only accommodate a maximum of three cars, tractor trailers can transport 3 to 12 vehicles at a time, although it still depends on the size of the connected trailer.

Because more people are paying when you use a tractor trailer, you will save money. However, you will only pay less if the trailer is packed to capacity. Unfortunately you may have to wait for quite some time until the trailer is full of cars that are going in the right direction.

These big machines are too large to navigate neighborhood streets. Despite the fact that they are ideal for long-distance travel, they are slow because of the weight that they carry. You should be able to collect your car at a driver terminal.

There is a subdivision in trailer types - single-vehicle or multiple-vehicle. The shipping company will select a trailer depending on what truck they will use. Most of the time, hotshots use single-vehicle trailers, while semi-trailer trucks use multiples.

A semi will transport a single vehicle if it has modifications, is unusually large, and so on. A flatbed truck will be used to load the car. A service like this cost a lot more than normal, but it is very safe.

When shipping using a multiple-vehicle trailer, there is a huge debate of whether it is better to place the car on the lower or upper deck during car transport. Vehicles on the upper deck are more susceptible to elements while the lower deck could get oil or any fluid dripping from the top. It seems both options have pros and cons.
