By Dylan Scott

Many people like to keep pets, especially dogs. Young animals like puppies are known for being mischievous and sometimes destructive. Use the following article to help you start training your dog.

To make sure your dog pays attention to you, you should use its name as often as possible. Use it often in the early days of training, so your pup learns that he should pay attention to you when you call his name. Give your dog a relatively short name, preferably one that isn't likely to be confused with other words.

Make training for your dog a regular, repeated part of your time together to keep them familiar with the rules they've learned. People think that just because their dog has been trained once, that is all they need. Dogs are much like humans, in the sense that they share the same habitual learning system. This is why on-going training is important.

Understanding what motivates your pet will give you a leg up in your training. Dog training can be a learning experience, especially with it comes to determining what motivates your pet. All dogs respond well to positive reinforcement, so keep this in mind while training you dog. If your dog is happy he will behave in a more appropriate way.

Communication is a crucial component of the training process. When training your dog, you must speak clearly and be consistent every time. You have to be conscious of your body language and your verbal cues when training, and remember to always give rewards. Remember to be aware of what your dog is communicating to you as well. The animal will usually let you know what he or she is feeling.

When crate training your new puppy, take it in small manageable steps so the animal can become accustomed to the changes easily. When they are comfy with the open door, try closing it and feeding them treats via the wires. Begin with small intervals, and work your way up to longer times. If the dog becomes agitated, slow down a little more to make them more comfortable.

When trying to train a puppy it is important to resist games such as tug-of-war. Tug-of-war, wrestling, and chase games sometimes teach young puppies to bite your hands. This behavior is very difficult to break, so you should avoid these games while they are still a puppy.

People train dogs for different reasons. The fact that dogs enjoy making their owners happy makes training easy and a way to bond with your dog. It is hoped that you have found some helpful tips in this article that will aid your efforts to train your pooch.
